Writing at HJS
'Writing is the painting of the voice...' (Voltaire)
In our school, writing takes place across all subjects. We believe that children need to be effective communicators in all walks of life and that the writing process is central to this.
All writing follows a variety of stages, including planning, drafting, editing/improving, re-drafting and finalising. These stages are applied as appropriate to each task. Throughout the process, children evaluate their writing against set targets.
Our school has devised its own system of making writing exciting for the reader by using a variety of sentence types. Information about our whole-school system of teaching sentences is outlined in the document below. We hope you find it useful.
