Basic Skills June 2021

June 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

Before the half-term break, we were externally assessed for the Quality Mark Award. I am delighted to inform you that following the visit we were awarded the Quality Mark (see attached letter) which demonstrates and rewards our continued work to promote and teach high-quality basic skills of Maths and English for our pupils. There were many positive comments within the report and I wanted to share some of these with you. The assessor stated that:

‘Improvements in English and mathematics are at the forefront of the improvement plans initiated by the Leadership Team. The children are given opportunities to use the skills taught in maths and English lessons across the Curriculum.’

‘Pupils were very clear of expectations and there was evidence of differentiation; they are encouraged to be involved in their next steps through both verbal and visual prompts.’                                                                ‘During discussions with the pupils, they were happy to talk about how they enjoyed coming to school and demonstrated an enthusiasm for learning.’

‘Teachers’ planning takes into account those children who may need extra support and the differentiation they may need – this could be evident through task, outcome or the level of support offered.’

‘In each lesson, there is an expectation that pupils will learn from the use of engaging resources to stimulate pupil interest in their learning.’                                                                                                              ‘The Acting Head and Acting Deputy Head supported by the staff provide firm leadership and have a vision for the role the school plays in the education of the whole child.’

‘Support staff will give feedback to teachers on progress during lessons and are also heavily involved in assessing the progress of children.’                                                                                                               ‘Governors are fully involved in the life of the school; they challenge the Senior Leadership Team.’

‘The Leadership Team places a great emphasis on establishing positive relationships with parents and carers…believe that strong links between parents and school can only benefit the child as they see the two working together for their benefit.’

We hope the above comments show the continued work that Governors and staff provide in order to support and benefit the learning of all our pupils. As ever, we will continue to look at new ways to enhance the learning and our provision even further.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. Fowler
