Music at HJS

Hamstead Junior School

and Music.

The school was awarded Music mark in 2016 in recognition of the commitment given to promoting music. In awarding the mark the National Association for Music recognised that the School's, " dedication to a broad and balanced curriculum is inspiring."

All of our children are musicians and are fortunate to learn how to play at least 4 instruments in their 4 years at HJS.

In Year 3 all children have weekly Ukulele lessons taught by Sandwell Music and Arts teacher Mr J. Cockshott.

In Year 4 all children have weekly Tabla drum lessons taught by Sandwell Music and Arts teacher Mr D.Singh Rattan

In Year 5 all children have weekly Clarinet lessons taught by Sandwell Music and Arts teacher Mr B. Smith.

In Year 6 all children have weekly keyboard lessons taught by Sandwell Music and Arts teacher Mrs W. Callaghan.

Well attended parent concerts take place during the year and are always enjoyable to attend as children develop performing skills.

A school choir also meets weekly, led by Mrs Clayton and Mrs Harding.

Today we looked at a new song. After only 10 minutes the children had learnt how to sing the first verse and chorus perfectly. Have a listen...

Descant for 'One Thousand Christmas Lights'.

Here are two audio files to help you learn the descant for this song. The first one is me singing the first verse with the piano playing the notes. The second is me singing the whole song whilst the piano plays the accompaniment. Try singing with me and the piano playing the notes first. When you are confident you have learnt that then move onto learning the whole song. Good luck!

Whole song

Everything after this is from 2018-2019.
