Edible Garden at HJS

As a school, we received funding to set up an 'Edible garden' in our school. With the new addition of our Edible Garden, we have a vibrant outdoor space that excites and teaches children about growing and eating healthy food. The Edible Garden is a unique asset to our school, demonstrating our commitment to teaching, going beyond the traditional subjects and instilling healthy habits for life.

How the Edible Garden is used at HJS

This is an area in school that is used regularly by children in all Year Groups. Throughout the year, Mrs Mercer and Mrs Howard run a gardening club which children - from all Year Groups - attend with enthusiasm at different points throughout the year. We grow a range of fruit and vegetables and try and use these in school as much as possible and allow the children to try the produce that they harvest.

Edible Garden Mission Statement

The mission of the Edible School Garden Group is to reconnect children and their families with real food and to empower and inspire our local communities to eat well.
We accomplish this by building school gardens and greenhouses so that children can experience first hand what real food is, where it comes from and how to grow it.
