Year 5 2018 - 2019

We hope you have a lovely Easter and holiday. From the Year 5 staff. smiley
Welcome to the Year 5 homepage.smiley The Year 5 teachers this year are Mrs Clayton (previously known as Miss Robinson) and Miss Weaver. We look forward to a year filled with exciting learning and activities.

Reading Plus

The school is now using a new reading tool which children can use at home. Please encourage your children to use this as much as possible as it will really help their reading fluency, vocabulary knowledge and comprehension. It will work with most technology that can connect to the internet. The children need to go to www.readingplus.com and then login with the username and password they have been given.

Homework schedule

Spelling homework - week 1 shall be tested Friday 7th May 2019

Times table homework - (Children could go on websites such as 'Rock Star Maths' or 'Hit the Button' for this homework).

Maths homework - none this week.

Learning Journal

(Please remember a minimum of 6 A4 pages should be written for each learning journal homework. If 3D art is done then some writing should still be done in the journal to accompany the art. Please see 'Brilliant Learning Journal Examples' for ideas of what is expected.

Topic - free choice. We thought the children might like to do a project about something that interests them for their last learning journal homework this year. We are interested to know what they would choose to write about if given a choice.  (within reason - as long as it's sensible and age appropriate. Please no homework to be done about games such as Fortnite).

Quotes from the children about Frank Chapman

smiley I really enjoyed this trip. I've learnt new things and I believe in myself more. Thanks a load.

enlightened The trip to Frank Chapman was very enjoyable. I am a lot more independent and I don't have to rely on my parents now. Thanks.

yesI'm glad we went to Frank Chapman because we are not looking at screens all week and we learn more about nature.

heartThis was the best week ever. I enjoyed my stay but the climbing scared me. I learnt how to abseil.

smileyI enjoyed the archery, climbing and the food.

enlightenedIt's better to learn now rather than later.

yesIt's better to get to do new things to try out and get away from our parents.
