Sporting Activities 2015-2016

Hamstead has a long tradition of intra and inter school sports. Over the year children may play in House matches or competitions and some may be selected to represent the school in netball matches against other local schools or in football matches against other members of the West Bromwich Primary Schools' Football Association.

Our aim is that all  children will be offered the chance to join a lunch or after school sporting club within the year, with Sports Plus coaches providing sessions Tuesday lunchtimes and evenings.

Autumn 2015

Lunchtime Clubs Year 6 Volleyball, Year 4 Handball

After School Clubs Year 4 Tennis, Year 5 Gymnastics

 

Spring 2016

Netball

HJS competes in a learning community (West Bromwich North learning Community) event.

Matches played and results:

 

Gymnastics.

Two teams of four gymnasts competed in an area Gymnastics competition on Thursday Match 17th 2016. Well done to all of the children who trained and represented the school so well.

 

Netball Hi Five

A team of children took part in a Hi Five Netball completion at Tipton Leisure Centre on 29th February 2016.

 

Tri Gold Competition

A year 4 team of ten children took part in an inter school completion held at Lyng Primary school on Wednesday 4th May 2016.

 

Quick cricket

A team of 10 year 4 children took part in a Quick Cricket tournament against other schools on June 14th 2016. The event was held at Tipton Leisure Centre. Well done to all of our players

 

Swimming

All children in years 5 and 6 take part in swimming sessions held at Wednesbury Swimming Pool during the Summer term.

Engage to Compete.

An engage to compete assembly recognising the involvement of HJS children in sport took place on Friday 15th January 2016.

Well done to the team who won this competition in its first year of being played. Thank you to Miss Barnes and Miss Robinson for coaching the team and arranging the matches.

House Matches.....Football

Well done to the 31 children who played for their house teams in the first round of house matches on March 16th. You played well on a very bobbly, difficult pitch and did well to encourage each other.

Tennis

Well done to Jaden, Mischa, Nial and Libby who represented the school in the Sandwell School mini tennis competition on 23rd April 2015. The timed tennis competition saw the team playing several matches against teams from other schools, reaching the 3rd/4th place play off, finishing 4th. 

 

 Bikeability.

Well done to the year 4 children who passed their bikeability test during the Autumn term. Well done to the year 5 children who have also recently passed this nationally accredited award.

 

Engage to compete.

During the year all year groups took part in Engage to Compete activities. This programme culminated with a whole school event at Tipton leisure centre in July 2015.

 

Sports Day.

School Sports Day took place on Wednesday 15th July with children in the 4 House Teams competing against each other.

Thank you to parents for turning out to watch this in impressive numbers and to those brave adults who competed in the 'Grown-up' races.
