Music at HJS

Hamstead Junior School

and Music.

The school was awarded Music mark in 2016 in recognition of the commitment given to promoting music. In awarding the mark the National Association for Music recognised that the School's, " dedication to a broad and balanced curriculum is inspiring."

All of our children are musicians and are fortunate to learn how to play at least 4 instruments in their 4 years at HJS.

In Year 3 all children have weekly Ukulele lessons taught by Sandwell Music and Arts teacher Mr J. Cockshott.

In Year 4 all children have weekly recorder lessons taught by their class teachers

In Year 5 all children have weekly Clarinet lessons taught by Sandwell Music and Arts teacher Mr B. Smith.

In Year 6 all children have weekly keyboard lessons taught by Sandwell Music and Arts teacher Mrs W. Callaghan.

Some Year 5 children also attend an after school ukulele lesson, again taught by Mr J Cockshott.

Well attended parent concerts take place during the year and are always enjoyable to attend as children develop performing skills.

A school choir also meets weekly, led by Miss Robinson and Mrs Harding.
